Advanced Vein Center Offers New, Painless Varicose Vein Treatment in Portland

Varithena is the 1st FDA-approved microfoam injection for varicose veins

Portland, MAINE, April 19, 2023—The Advanced Vein Center—the region’s most experienced, office-based venous disease facility—has acquired a transformative new, non-surgical vein treatment for eliminating varicose veins: Varithena. Varithena is the first FDA-approved microfoam delivered via injection for the treatment of bulging varicose veins. This fast, nearly painless, in-office procedure offers qualified patients an effective alternative to surgery and laser procedures, requiring little to no downtime and minimal to no repeat treatments.

“Our goal at the Advanced Vein Center is to provide patients the most effective treatments available for addressing leg veins and venous disease,” says Dr. Andre Couture. “But we are also focused on patient comfort and satisfaction, so the fact that this safe, effectual procedure is also nearly pain free is even more exciting to us. We’ve already begun treating patients and seen incredible results, and we’re proud to be able to offer this cutting-edge therapy to men and women in Maine and the surrounding areas.”

The experienced providers at the Advanced Vein Center offer comprehensive consultations to men and women with venous disease, varicose veins, spider veins and other venous concerns, providing expert insight into patients’ condition(s) and an overview of the most appropriate treatment(s) to address their needs. For qualified patients, Varithena is a fast, gentle varicose vein treatment that helps improve patient sense of well-being.

How it works
A small amount of the polidocanol injectable foam 1% is administered by a provider, filling a desired section of the damaged vein(s). The diseased vein then collapses, quickly and efficiently redirecting blood flow to healthier, stronger blood vessels and eliminating the bulging appearance of the treated vein(s). The microfoam is naturally diluted in the bloodstream and flushed out of the body.

The nearly painless procedure requires no numbing injections, no incisions, no general anesthesia or sedation, and leaves no scarring. In clinical trials, only 4% of patients reported any pain during treatment. The majority of patients also require only one treatment before seeing results. In a clinical trial, there was a 97% success rate on the treated veins and in Varithena pivotal trials, only 3.4% of patients needed to re-treat an area included in the initial treatment session. Varithena has been used successfully on more than 100,000 patients in clinics across the country.

The Advanced Vein Center works with patients to provide a transparent overview of associated treatment costs. Varithena treatments are accepted by many major insurances, but individual coverage may depend on the severity of the varicose veins. Varithena is a prescription medication, so the providers at the Advanced Vein Center will discuss potential side effects with qualified candidates.
