Sclerotherapy In Portland, ME

Treat your unwanted spider veins with minimally invasive treatments like sclerotherapy. At the Advanced Vein Center, our expert team is dedicated to helping men and women address leg vein challenges with leading, professional care and the most effective treatments available. We are proud to offer sclerotherapy to patients in Greater Portland, Lewiston, Central and Southern Maine.

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that involves the injection of an FDA-approved sclerosing agent called Sotradecol directly into affected veins. This injection causes the vessels to seal shut and fade from view, ridding your skin of spider veins altogether. At the Advanced Vein Center, we also offer ultrasound-assisted sclerotherapy to treat larger underlying veins that may cause spider veins to appear in the future. Sclerotherapy has been around for nearly a century and continues to be the gold standard in treating spider veins.

What Can I Expect During Sclerotherapy Treatment?

Our sclerotherapy treatments are performed by highly skilled providers in our comfortable, state-of-the-art facility. Treatment will involve a series of small injections with a fine needle into the affected veins. Your provider may use ultrasound technology to target deeper veins for preventative treatment. The entire treatment generally takes between 15 minutes and one hour depending on the size of your treatment area.

What Can I Expect After My Sclerotherapy Treatment?

Because sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment, there is no formal downtime or recovery period associated with your treatment session. Most patients are able to return to their normal daily activities, including work, immediately following their sclerotherapy treatment session. Our providers may ask that you wear compression socks and avoid direct sunlight for about two days following treatment. Patients typically see and feel a difference in their spider veins just a few short weeks following treatment.

Is Sclerotherapy Right For Me?

If you’re looking for an effective, minimally invasive treatment to eliminate spider veins, sclerotherapy performed by the experts at the Advanced Vein Center may be right for you. To learn more about your individual condition and treatment options, we recommend a personal consultation at our office where you can sit down with a provider to assess your veins, discuss your concerns and receive a customized treatment plan to help you achieve your goals.
